Described as an all-star ensemble of traditional Irish musicians their virtuosity on multiple instruments combined with their approach to presenting historical or cultural background for each of their selections makes for a musical and cultural journey through Celtic history. Must hear vocals of Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh (pronounced "mur-in nik-all-iff"), Benny McCarthy, Button Accordion; Eamonn Doorley, Bouzouki; Oisin McAuley, Fiddle; Donal Clancy, Guitar; Donnchadh Gough, Bdanu22odhran and Uillean Pipes; and Tom Doorley, Flute and Whistles.

In 1994, Benny McCarthy, Donal Clancy and Donnchadh Gough from Co.Waterford with Dubliner Daire Bracken were invited to the renowned festival Lorient Inter-celtic Festival in France. In Lorient the band became an instant success and they were immediately invited to return in 1996. The band was named Danú after the Celtic Goddess by a good friend Trisha Hutton This was the simple beginning to what was to become one of the most important Traditional Irish ensembles of recent years.

Support for the performance by Danu is provided in part by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

SMU Department of Theatre and Dance presents:

Talking With by Jane Martin

March 4-6, 7:30pm, March 7, 3:00pm, March 8, 7:30pm in the Valencia Academy Theatre at the Valencia Arts Center, 1164 W. 10th (corner of Vila and 10th Street)

Tickets: $10 Adults, $5 Seniors and Students. SMU Student Rush available.

Talking With is eleven monologues for women. These extraordinary monologues received a standing ovation at Louisville’s Actors Theatre. Idiosyncratic characters amuse, move, and frighten, always speaking from the depths of their souls. They include a baton twirler, a fundamentalist snake handler, an ex-rodeo rider, a bag lady wish to live in McDonalds, and an actress willing to go to any length to get a job. It was the 1982 winner of the American Theatre Critics Association Award for Best Regional Play.
“A dramatist with an original voice…(and) gladsome humor.”-- N.Y. Times
“With Jane Martin the monologue has taken on a new poetic form, intensive in its method and revelatory in its impact.” – Philadelphia Inquirer

Please Note: This production has a live snake and a live cat in different scenes. We have rated the play as PG-13 because of adult language in one incident.
